Dari beberapa sumber informasi Film Now You See Me akan merilis Film lanjutannyaNow You See Me: The Little Movie That Could
Studios do not love movies that cost $75 million to make. They require tens of millions in marketing costs, which means they have to do pretty well at the box office, and they tend to have very little sequel or spin-off potential. These aren’t the superhero movies that clog the theaters in the summer or the artier Oscar bait movies you see in the winter. They tend to be character driven or genre films that keep things relatively small but not small enough.
Now You See Me, which hit theaters during peak summer movie time: May 31st. Up against the likes of Fast & Furious 6, Star Trek Into Darkness and Iron Man 3, Now You See Me seemed destined to sink into the pool of little-seen movies without making much of a splash.
Instead, the movie was the highest-grossing opener the weekend that it hit theaters. Fast & Furious, in its second week, earned more but with $29 million, Now You See Me outgrossed Will Smith’s summer sci-fi extravaganza After Earth.
Now You See Me, about a group of magicians who pull off a bank robbery during a performance, then kept going strong. The movie had, what’s known in the business as, legs. It stayed in the top 10 domestically for five weeks and is doing decent business overseas. The $75 million movie has now earned $233 million at the box office and it’s still going strong outside of the U.S. Lions Gate CEO, Jon Feltheimer, expects the film will end its run at $275 million, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Now a sequel is in the works. Lions Gate says the new movie will hit theaters in 2014. That’s a pretty fast turnaround but a smart move by the studio, which yesterday reportednet income for the first quarter of 2014 of $13.6 million, up from a loss for the same quarter last year. Lions Gate’s stock is trading at $34 per share, up from a 52-week low of $13. If the studio can really get the movie out in less than a year, it will build on the momentum of Now You See Me’s home video release.
